A Mom and Her Son… Summer Time Fun

Last night I had the absolute pleasure of sharing a dance with my currently non-speaking nearly 14 year old son diagnosed with severe autism seeing a local 90s band on the Jersey shore.

My son suffers many sensory difficulties but he noticed his older sister up dancing to the band on the sand and he wanted to come and join.

Anyone who knows an individual with whole body appraxia knows how hard it is even to initiate to join the dance floor of a live band but my son did just that toward the end of the night. He even wanted to be introduced to the band when he saw his sister being introduced… the band was so great, inclusive and super happy to meet my son 👏 🙏 .

It’s a misconception that people with severe disabilities whether holding an autism diagnosis, an intellectual disability, medical limitation or something else do not want to be social… they absolutely do! And we should be mindful and supportive and make that happen where we can.

Here are some pics of just a boy dancing with his mom 😍 ❤️ 🙏
